A new pilot program for Home Based Care

The Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia is launching a new pilot program for home based care in October. Children with profound and severe mental and physical disabilities will receive services of specialists at home to develop their psychological, social, self-care and communication skills.

According to the Agency, the parents of the children with disabilities were provided with this news by Nino Odisharia, the Head of Social Department of MoLSHA. Based on her information, above mentioned pilot program will enable us to see the essential needs of the children better and create all necessary conditions for their development. The meeting was also attended by the founder of “First Step Georgia” Nino Kadagidze. It should be noted that the organization has been providing HBC services since 2009 to the children with profound and severe mental disabilities. 
The pilot program includes service provision by the following specialists: a care giver, speech therapist, specialist of development, occupational therapist, psychologist and pediatrician. HBC pilot program will be available for children aged 7-18. The program is being implemented in Tbilisi and at this stage will serve no more than 40 those children who are in constant need of somebodys assistance and are not able to get DCC service.
